PMS and Menopause

Well if your anything like me, I grew up with the most horrible PMS symptoms EVER. I would be so irritable, in pain, extreme mood swings the week before “it” hit and then during my period was even worse! I would be so sick, with the worst stomach pains all I could do was curl up in a ball in bed and wait for it to pass over the next few days. I always thought to myself, “This can’t be normal?!” When I went to my OBGYN, I was told to take birth control ongoing (no placebo pill) for a few years and I wouldn’t have to go through that horrible monthly “accepted as the norm” experience ever again. Like many, I was thrilled! Finally, not only do I never have to experience that horrible pain again but I also wouldn’t have to go through having a monthly period, win win!

This is probably one of the biggest mistake that I regret the most so far in my life. Not only does the pill mess with your delicate hormonal balance, it can also be extremely detrimental to your gut lining as well as cause emotional issues such as depression, stress, and anxiety.

Although, I’m not at the age to experience peri and full on menopause I have worked with many many clients who have painted a very clear picture of their experience for me. Horrible night sweats and hot flashes that come on all the sudden, weight gain, vaginal dryness, low libido, mood swings, can’t sleep, and the list goes on and on. Now that is something to look forward to..eek!

Because this topic is so near and dear to my heart not only because of my own experience, but because almost everyone of my clients have a story/experience with painful and life altering symptoms from PMS and Menopause. Although, this is the socially accepted norm, what if I told you you didn’t have to accept it. You don’t have to have a horribly debilitating period every single month, you don’t need to go through the socially accepted symptoms of menopause.

These are not normal symptoms! Just because we have a society in which almost everyone experiences PMS and menopausal symptoms doesn’t mean it is normal and you have to go through the same experiences.

Our PMS and Menopause symptoms are our body’s way of telling us that there is something wrong or an imbalance is happening in the body just like our body tells us there is something wrong when we have stomach pains or digestive issues. I know many of you might be saying, obviously it’s your hormonal imbalance. But what if I told you it is so much more than that. The extremes of PMS and menopause can be attributed to hormonal imbalance yes but also, excess cortisol (too much stress), estrogen dominance, GI dysfunction, and toxicity overload.

When I have clients with horrible PMS and menopausal symptoms I always love starting them on a 21 day liver detox. In addition to get to the root of what is going on and where the imbalances are occurring I also like to get the sex and stress hormones tested using the gold standard saliva test, GI stool analysis to see if there is any kind of dysbiosis, and food sensitivity test to test fo inflammatory foods and gut lining permeability. If this is something you or someone you know would be interested in I would love to speak with you during a FREE 20 min consultation to see how we can get you feel full of health and vitality every single day!
